This book shows 462 color photographs of northern India. This is a companion book that provides some of the photos of the places that are more fully described in my guidebook, “Seeing Spiritual India: A Guide to Temples, Holy Sights, Festivals and Traditions: 2020 Update,” which is more than 650 pages of information of places all over India. Herein, we will see such places as Delhi, Haridwar, Rishikesh, Gangotri, Badrinatha, Amritsar, Dharamsala, Srinagar, Leh, Manali, Kurukshetra, and many more. We will also cover several places of far northeastern India, such as in Assam, Arunachala Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikhim, etc.

We will show Vedic temples, Buddhist Gompas, mosques, tribal regions, people, traditions, dance, art, architecture, etc. This will give you a chance to view many areas that you may want to see, or an opportunity to get a view of places you may never personally visit.

I have photographed so many places, historical sites, temples, and festivals, that I have a collection of over 18,000 slides and images of India. The problem with that is to decide which photos to use in this book. In my travel guide, I have included a few black and white photos, but have always wanted to put together a nice photographic book with color photos that do more justice to seeing these places. There are many photographic books on India in the marketplace, but some of these are large coffee table books, which are great but often expensive, or mass-market books that may have interesting photos, but sometimes so small you need a magnifying glass in order to see them. So, I wanted to come out with something that was in between. Something with larger photos, but that would accompany my travel guide book as well as possible. This would give the reader a good look at some of the places that are described, and a view of what it can be like to see such places.

Of course, I cannot use as many of my photos as I would like, and there are many good photos that are not shown. So, the next problem for me is simply deciding which few photos to choose for each place we visit, and which places to leave out. This is also why I have divided these photo books so it covers India in the same way as my guidebook, by dividing the country into North, South, West, and Eastern regions of the country, and taking the reader on a journey through the whole of India. So, with the guide book, which has all the details about each place and what you will see, now this photographic book gives a better view of them.
